A few weeks ago, I returned from the Writer's Digest Conference in New York City. I'd gone there with 4 of my writing buddies. Great fun!
As the author of two historical romances, published way back when, and frequent attendee at writing conferences once upon a time, this was the perfect venue to re-start my career. It was invigorating to be among my peeps again, focusing on the craft I love. (Getting compliments on the wing of pink in my hair only added to the "sparkle!") New writers, experienced writers--the diverse mix was exhilarating, the conversations varied. I enjoyed the workshops as well. All the information presented was immediately useful, the presenters entertaining, and their oft-repeated message about the absolute necessity for a robust online presence, or "platform," definitely sank in. (See? I'm working on it! I'm working on it!)
Best of all was the "Pitch Slam." Think 'speed dating' for writers and agents. I was only able to speak with four agents, but all four asked for partials of Dealer's Choice. Since returning, I've been dividing my time between building said "platform" and submitting the requested pages to the agents. One is a learn/scrap/scramble/start-over drill, the other is now down to a waiting game. Meanwhile, it's back to writing!
More soon!
